Information: Special Education Teacher at Tesoro. Head Varsity Basketball Coach at Tesoro since the school opened in 2001. In 22 years of Varsity Competition, Tesoro has won 9 League Titles & 2 CIF Southern Section Championships (2009 & 2023). In 2023, Coach Garrett was named California State Coach of the Year and Orange County Coach of the Year. Coach Garrett has twice been named CIF Southern Section Coach of the Year (2009 & 2023).
John Mika, Varsity Assistant Coach
Graduate of…… Palos Verdes HS & Redlands University
Family: Married with 3 kids (all Tesoro students)
Information: Coach in the Tesoro Basketball Program since 2012, Played at University of Redlands, Has been around basketball both as player and coach for over 30 years. Vice President of Orion Risk Management and in the commercial insurance industry for over 30 years. Coach Mika has played a key role in the development of our players and teams over the years. Coach Mika was an assistant coach for the 2023 CIF Championship team.
Tyler Mirza, Varsity Assistant Coach
Graduate of…Tesoro HS in 2020 & San Diego State in 2024
Information: Tyler was a member of the 2020 League Championship team. As a player earned All-League Honorable Mention Honors. Tyler is the youngest of 3 Mirza brothers that played in the Tesoro Basketball Program. Tyler was an assistant coach the past 3 years helping the team win Back to Back South Coast League Titles and a CIF Championship in 2023.
Chandler White, Varsity Assistant Coach
Graduate of……….Tesoro HS in 2016 & Chapman University in 2022
Information: Chandler played 4 years in the Tesoro Basketball program. Chandler was a member of the 2016 League Championship team earning himself the League Most Valuable Player. Chandler was also a member of the 2015 team that was a CIF Semi-Finalist & qualified for the State Playoffs. Chandler played basketball at Chapman University and currently works for Reliant Capitol Group. Chandler will be assisting the varsity and helping develop our players throughout the entire basketball program.
Worth Wolpert, Varsity Assistant Coach
Graduate of………Chardon HS (Ohio) & Penn State
Family: Married with 2 kids (1 Tesoro Graduate)
Information: Worth has been on the coaching staff since 2018. Worth has spent 20 years of his career producing video games. The last few years have been spent working at Driveline Baseball (Data-driven player-development). Worth will play a role at the varsity level assisting with scouting and stats.
Chris Manresa, JV Head Coach
Graduate of…….. Tesoro HS in 2009 & University of San Diego in 2013
Information: Chris was a member of the 2009 Tesoro CIF Championship team. Chris was the 2009 CIF player of the year & an ALL-State Selection that same year. Chris was a 4 year starter at USD for most of his career. Chris played professionally for 1 season in Germany before an injury sidelined him. Chris’ Tesoro jersey was retired in 2018. Chris has been a coach in the program since 2015. He works in the Special Education department as an Instructional Assistant.
Joey Farcone, JV Assistant Coach
Graduate of……….Tesoro HS in 2013 & Arizona University in 2017
Information: Joey played 4 years in the Tesoro Basketball program and was a member of the 2013 team that was a CIF Semi-Finalist & qualified for the State Playoffs. Joey is currently a teacher at Bernice Ayer Middle School in the Special Education Department.
Randon Lopez, Freshmen Head Coach
Graduate of……….Tesoro HS in 2016 & University of Hawaii in 2020
Information: Randon played 4 years in the Tesoro Basketball program and was a member of the 2016 League Championship team. Randon starting coaching in the Tesoro Basketball Program in 2023 after spending 2 years in the Aliso Niguel HS girls program. Randon is currently an instructional assistant in the Special Education Department at Tesoro HS.
Michael Missik, Freshmen Assistant Coach
Graduate of……….Tesoro HS in 2024
Information: Michael was a 3 year Varsity member & Captain of the 2024 team. Michael was a member of the 2023 CIF Championship & Back to Back South Coast League Championship team. Michael will play a critical role in developing our freshmen group this season. Michael is currently going to school at Saddleback College with plans to transfer to UCSD.
