Steve Garrett, Varsity Head Coach
Graduate of Clovis HS & The Master's College
Family: Married with 4 kids (2 Tesoro Graduates)
Bio: Special Education Teacher at Tesoro. Varsity Basketball Coach at Tesoro since the school opened in 2001. In 21 years of Varsity Competition, Tesoro has won 9 League Titles & 2 CIF Southern Section Championships (2009 & 2023). Coach Garrett has amassed nearly 400 wins.
John Mika, Varsity Assistant Coach
Graduate of Palos Verdes HS & University of Redlands
Family: Married with 3 kids (1 graduate of Tesoro)
Bio: Coach in the Tesoro Basketball Program since 2012, Played at University of Redlands. Has been around basketball both as player and coach for over 30 years. Vice President of Orion Risk Management and in the commercial insurance industry for over 25 years. Coach Mika has played a key role in the development of our players and teams over the years. This past season he was an assistant coach for the 2023 CIF Championship team.
Tyler Mirza, Varsity Assistant Coach
Graduate of Tesoro HS (2020)
Bio: Tyler was a member of the 2020 League Championship team. As a player earned All-League Honorable Mention Honors. Tyler is the youngest of 3 Mirza brothers that played in the Tesoro Basketball Program. He is currently a student at San Diego State where he will graduate this May. Tyler was an assistant coach the past 2 years helping the team win Back to Back South Coast League Titles and the 2023 CIF Championship.
Chris Manresa, JV Head Coach
Graduate of Tesoro HS in 2009 & University of San Diego in 2013.
Bio: Chris was a member of the 2009 Tesoro CIF Championship team, 2009 CIF Player of the Year & and a California ALL-State Selection that same year. Chris was a 4 year starter at University of San Diego for most of his career and played professionally for 1 season in Germany before an injury sidelined him. Chris’ Tesoro jersey was retired in 2018 and has been a coach in the program since 2015. He works in the Special Education department as an Instructional Assistant.
Joey Farcone, JV Assistant Coach
Graduate of Tesoro High School (2013) and University of Arizona (2017) in Business Management
Bio: Joey played 4 years in the Tesoro Basketball program and was a member of the 2013 team that was a CIF Semi-Finalist & qualified for the State Playoffs. Joey is currently a teacher at Bernice Ayer Middle School in the Special Education Department.
George Schader, Sophomore Head Coach
Graduate of Covina High School and Stanford University
Family: Married with 3 adult children
Bio: George played at Stanford University from 1976-78 where he was a Captain. George has coached a large number of kids in the Tesoro Basketball Program through the local NJB program. He and his wife are both cancer survivors. George has been coaching in the Tesoro Basketball program since 2014.
Randon Lopez, Freshmen Head Coach
Graduate of Tesoro High School (2016) and University of Hawaii (2020)
Bio: Randon played 4 years in the Tesoro Basketball program and was a member of the 2016 League Championship team. This is Randon’s first year coaching in the Tesoro Basketball Program after spending the last few years in the Aliso Niguel HS girls program.
Worth Wolpert, Assistant Coach
Graduate of Chardon HS (Ohio) and Penn State
Family: Married with 2 Kids
Bio: Worth has been on the coaching staff since 2018. Worth has spent 20 years of his career producing video games. The last few years have been spent working at Driveline Baseball (Data-driven player-development). Worth will play a role at the varsity level assisting with scouting and stats.
Chandler White, Assistant Coach
Graduate of Tesoro High School (2016) and Chapman University (2022)
Bio: Chandler played 4 years in the Tesoro Basketball program. Chandler was a member of the 2016 League Championship team earning himself the League Most Valuable Player. Chandler was also a member of the 2015 team that was a CIF Semi-Finalist & qualified for the State Playoffs. Chandler played basketball at Chapman University and currently works for Reliant Capitol Group. Chandler will be assisting throughout the entire basketball program this year.
